Dear Becker County Teachers,
We would like to invite your students to participate in a new exciting project to link local
students to the surrounding community through the Detroit Lakes Newspapers and Natural
Innovations.
We are starting a new feature in the newspaper that publishes students’ views on environmental
issues. This feature will have a format similar to the Star Tribune’s Mindworks, and will be
called Inquisitive Nature. The feature will run a few times a year, and each time you will be
notified in advance of the question.
This first Inquisitive Nature feature will coincide with Earth Week, and will be published in the
April 20th issue of the Detroit Lakes Tribune.
Your students (K-12) are invited to submit a written answer or a drawing illustrating the answer
to the proposed question. The limit for written submissions is 100 words. The first question is:
“What do you think is the most pressing environmental issue for your generation?”
We would like to publish a range of ages, but limit the responses so that we can publish as many
as possible. Therefore, the first classroom to respond at each grade level will be chosen to
submit entries.
If you are interested in participating, please send an email to [email protected] by
Friday, April 5 to reserve your spot. Entries are due to [email protected] by April
11. If your entry cannot be emailed, please mail them by April 10 to the address below. This
feature will be published in the Detroit Lakes Tribune on April 20th.
Submitted entries should have the following information included: student name, grade, school
and town where they live.
We look forward to working with you on this project! Please direct any questions to
[email protected] or Pippi Mayfield, [email protected], 847-3151. |
