Directions to Facility Location: The Prairie Woods Chapter meets on the third Monday evening of each month from September through April at the Detroit Lakes Public Library.


Mission (Abstract)

The Izaak Walton League is a nationwide group of men and women dedicated to protecting our nation's soil, air, woods, waters and wildlife. Our strength lies in our grassroots, commonsense approach to solving local, regional and national conservation issues. The Prairie Woods Chapter holds educational, monthly meetings and is involved in various local conservation projects.

Additional Organization Description

  • Involved in all community projects relating to environment, especially toxic and hazardous waste, public wetlands
  • Hunter Ethics Program
  • Wood duck box and bluebird house projects
  • Canada goose predator problem
  • Take a Kid Fishing day
  • Environmental education program involving "touch and see items" for grade schools
  • Joint educational programs with local birding club
  • Involved in Becker County Forestry Advisory which formulates county policy on county forestland
  • Spring "Potluck" supper and trap shoot
  • Seeking landowners to become involved in the Adopt-A-Pothole program
  • Supportive in the establishment of the Tamarak Interpretive Association at Tamarak National Wildlife Refuge
  • Task Force participants at Hamden Slough National Wildlife Refuge, helping to establish wildlife overlook area (Roger Hesby Memorial), and contributed to water control structures - resulting in receiving the Volunteer of the Year award
  • Development of Sucker Creek City Park in Detroit Lakes
